Small World Stories #857, 858 & 859

in Small World

Thinking back today to New Year’s Eve and the three small-world stories that unfolded then.

  • First, at dinner that night, I discover that the guy who is dating the old friend that my girlfriend has recently reconnected with is an old friend of my samba-music friend Carl, going way back to high-school days on the East Coast.

Then, I walk into Fred’s New Year’s Eve party to discover:

  • My former neighbor Deirdre, who I haven’t seen in several years and who now lives right next door to Fred.
  • My friend Alison, who I know through an entirely different circle. I have no idea how she knows Fred.

It’s not unusual, in fact it’s the norm, to have a small-world story unfold in any Seattle gathering, but three in one day is pretty impressive.
